The "Migration and Societal Integration" Research Consortium
The German-Israeli “Migration and Societal Integration” research consortium studies the acculturation and its consequences of migrant children and youths in Israel and Germany. It is composed of researchers in the fields of psychology, sociology, criminology and linguistics from several universities in Germany (Berlin, Bielefeld, Bremen, Chemnitz, Jena, Leipzig, and Mannheim) and Israel (Bar-Ilan, Haifa, Jerusalem and Tel Aviv).
Central research questions of the consortium are:
Research within the consortium compares immigrants, ethnic minority members and natives in two modern immigrant receiving countries, Germany and Israel. Together, results of the five research projects provide landmark insights into today’s situation impacting Turks, ethnic Germans, and former Soviet Union Jews in Germany as well as Israeli Arabs and former Soviet Union Jews in Israel. Overall,
about 17,000 people in both countries participated in the research conducted by the consortium.
The consortium is
funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
